Legend
MemberHi All
I have seen a few posts recently about Wizard’s asking advice on builds/equipment etc…. obviously it takes time to get all the equipment required but it also looks as if a few peeps are missing basic points to improve their build and therefore enhance their role within a group, this is not a critisism as a few of these peeps have taken to the forums to ask advice etc… with the free lesser tr it might be worth looking at the build from the ground up though.
Therefore I have started this post for various peeps who have their wizzy builds for the most part sorted to give some general advice on build ie. stats, feats, enhancements etc…. and then move onto what abils on equipment should be covered.

MemberStats – Just max Int and Con, every 4 levels put point in Int.
Feats: Reccomended Feats: Toughness, Quicken, Heighten, Empower, Maximise, Spell Focus, G Spell Focus, Spell Pen, G Spell Pen, Wiz: Past Life
Feats: Worth Considering: Insightful Reflexes, Mental Tough, Imp Mental Tough.ExtendEnhancements: Fairly straight forward for the build u want, is worth maxxing the Int and Spell Pen and going one main line for damage spells, a few points in other elements if want fairly effective backup spells.
Tactics/Build: A well built PM with gear should have around 550hp easy and can get decent sp regen from getting hit from Torc and Conc Opp items, an ArchMage should be aiming for at least 450hp, 500hp if WF.
Mostly for a PM below, Archmage’s are bit harder to get build/gear right.
Easyish Item abilities to aim for: +6 min to all Stats (char not that important, depending if use UMD for heal scrolls on build, ie. elf Archmage), min of +200sp base item, Spell Pen 9, Arcane Lore for elements use at 9%+, Greater/Superior False Life item, Greensteel HP item and Conc Opp item with +100sp/+50sp, for PM min of +2 Necro Spell Focus item, Toughness on Item, Pale Rod, Staff of the Necromancer, Minos, various cannith crafting and of course spell enhancement items (should be aiming for 90+ for the main elements u use, over 100 ideal)
Harder items/Abils to aim for: Spidersilk Robes +8Int/Epic Robe of Shadow, Torc, Bracers of Demon Consort, Bramble Caster’s or Epic ring of Mire, TOD rings/belts, few new rings from the new quests. +1 & +2 or +3 Insightful on Int and Con.
Tricks and Spells:
Don’t use extend or Quicken on basic buffs such as GH/Blur/resists etc… they will last long enough at lvl 20 and will save sp by not having these meta’s active, ofc extend on haste and rage.
Look at using spells such as Circle of Death, Undeath to Death, Energy Drain, Symbol of Death, they are more useful than you think, fod and wail are not the only necro spells, your cc dc’s should be pretty good too for ottos and mass hold.
when you cast wail move around, you will more than likely get more mobs when one area clear.
and ofc keep the melees hasted 🙂July 30, 2012 at 2:51 pm #876Nikoli
MemberNice guide, ty Legend.
Shame we dont have an archive of various versions over the years ( the first draft would have had just keep the melees hasted /raged/displaced & con 8, why would anyone need more ofc)

MemberA few comments on what Legend stated:
For stats it depends heavily on the build points available and skill points usage (i.e. if you want UMD a few points in CHA vs going from 16 to 18 CON is worthy). Also a few points of STR help a lot a TR to melee the first 8-12 levels which is way faster than otherwise. Until you can use Wall of Fire and Web combo I find leveling with Carnifex faster.
For feats I strongly recommend skipping Improved Mental Toughness which is kind of a waste. Mental Toughness is only decent if you go for Archmage or you want to use Wraith form for a Palemaster. Otherwise I would skip both – 105 or so spell points each at level 20 is sorely too low. Some people consider Empower is not such a high impact anymore after u14 due to how metas are added not multiplied. You can fit it in your build if you play Human, otherwise you might have choosing issues, since nowadays you want all the spell penetration feats for the FR content which is full of drows. Also I dropped Extend on my Archmage and replaced it with Insightful Reflexes – a dead wizard cannot Haste anymore and I feel only spells are a threat to me especially AoE ones.
Regarding Palemasters I have some issues with the amount of light damage all the casters in the hard/elite content are spamming. Certain quests can be a pain depending on how many people are in the party. Light absorption items are at premium so this can be an issue. If you are not in form you lose a lot of your DC, plus some reliable self-healing.
